READING LIST: SWEETU PATEL of C'H'C'M'

May 18, 2012

READING LIST
SWEETU PATEL of C'H'C'M' SHOP
It takes some doing to be rated "Best Men's Shop in New York", and it really says something about you if you won the accolade after only about a year in a physical location, but Patel's keen eye & unfailing design sense made it happen for C'H'C'M', his men's clothing shop. We once almost started a luxury airline with Patel, but that's another story. Here he chooses 4 books (on subcultures, coolhunting, cricket, and Mods) for stylish summer reading.

SUMMER READING LISTS

We'll be posting summer reading lists from a few of those we know and admire throughout the summer months, but here are some of the books we plan to have with us for this summer's lakeside cookouts,  laying-in mornings, and long plane rides. Many more to come from some amazing contributors, so check back often...

POP UP SHOP @ Magasin Général

April 22, 2012

We had a great time yesterday with other SF area makers & small retailers at Magasin Général, a lovely weekend pop-up market sponsored by the very nice ladies behind Anaise and Lofti. We saw several old friends, and made a few wonderful new ones as well. Here are a few shots of our space there, including a few from this excellent write-up at Still the Sky is Blue.

BOOK/SHOP AT HOME: TYKE O'BRIEN

April 9, 2012

We love seeing our offerings in our customer's homes. These pictures came to us from Tyke O'Brien, "an educator who moonlights as a decorator". They show the vintage Richard Brautigan wideside "Five Poems", (a few copies of which are still available from our Art selection) framed beautifully above a Saarinen dining table. Have you bought something from us that has beautified your space? Send a picture to info@book---shop.com.

Thanks, Tyke!

T.S. ELIOT'S "WASTE LAND" READ BY JEREMY IRONS & EILEEN ATKINS

March 30, 2012

A remarkable reading of T.S. Eliot's Modernist masterpiece, "The Waste Land" is available for listening on the BBC Radio 4 website right now, read by two justly famous actors and introduced by the Archbishop of Canterbury, no less. The introduction is  long-ish, but worth the wait to hear a performance of the poem that brings a lot of clarity to a work famed for its supposed obscurity. The recording is only available until April 6th. Hear it here.
