7. A GREAT BIG UGLY MAN CAME UP AND TIED HIS HORSE TO ME by Wallace Tripp

I grew up on Wallace Tripp, and I’m addicted to his detailed, very funny style. ’70s in an awesome way. His interpretations of classic nursery rhymes are always surprising, and his are the types of illustrations with tiny little surprises packed in all over the place. I couldn’t find many images online, so you’ll need to take my word on this. “A Great Big Ugly Man” is a classic, and another great one is his collection of Mother Goose, “Granfa Grigg had a Pig“.
